‘Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today’ – Malcolm X.
Curriculum Content
Our curriculum is bespoke to the needs of our pupils, not only by focusing on appropriate subject specific knowledge, skills and understanding as set out in the National Curriculum, but by also providing extracurricular experiences that seek to nurture talents and abilities and prepare our children for life in modern Britain.
Our aim is to create a happy, secure and sustainable environment where children can explore, investigate, listen and discuss in order to become independent, mature and well-motivated learners. They develop positive attitudes, think critically and make valuable contributions, as global citizens, to our community and the wider world.
Our curriculum is designed to ensure we meet these aims and that children become life-long learners. From the earliest years in school, right through to being ready to move on to the next stage in their education, our pupils learn and develop through progressive, engaging study. The curriculum builds the skills and knowledge that give children the tools to thrive. Experiences are planned to immerse pupils in their learning – academic and social – and these are carefully chosen to enable pupils to appreciate the wealth of culture and diversity in their local area and the wider world enhanced by our international school links and projects.
Leaders have made conscious decisions on how their subject areas are to be taught. For some subjects we have opted for external schemes (Kapow, Developing Experts, Teach Computing and Language Angels) and for some subjects, designed our own curriculums to meet the needs of the children. All subjects fully cover the requirements of the National Curriculum and are planned progressively from our 2 year olds to Year 6.
To strengthen our school ethos we have embarked on becoming a Rights Respecting and Eco-School. The introduction of Forest School lessons for all children will broaden children’s learning experiences but also support children’s mental health and wellbeing.
When designing our curriculum provision, we have ensured that learning is structured and developmental; relevant and engaging; challenging, aspirational and accessible to all. At the heart of our curriculum is our commitment to the well-being of the whole school community and to nurturing the talents and individuality of everyone.
