How we support children/young people with SEN starting at our school
A child starting school is a scary time for all parents, but we understand this can be even more so for parents of children with SEND or Medical Needs. Conversations between families and school start early so we can ensure we have in place what is required to make this a successful step for the pupil and the parents/carers feel comfortable leaving their child in our care. We will bespoke this offer for children and families so we meet individual needs.
All children are on a journey of lifelong learning towards adulthood so we ensure the steps we take will prepare them to lead happy and fulfilled lives. We strive for each child to reach their full potential academically and to live healthy well-rounded lives.
How we support children/young people with SEN moving between classes in our school
For some children, change is very challenging, so we plan a bespoke transition program for pupils. This could include:
- Additional parent meetings
- Additional visits to classrooms
- Information booklets
- Videos and images of new classrooms and adults
We are flexible and will work with parents and carers to ensure transition is successful. However, we also need to ensure pupils with SEND become confident independent learners so developing relationships with a range of adults as a child moves through school is very important.
How we support children/young people with SEN leaving our school
Discussions with new schools form an important part of transition. Paperwork is always transferred but this does not paint the true picture of a child. We can arrange
- Additional parent meetings
- Additional visits to classrooms
- Information booklets
- Videos and images of new classrooms and adults
And will work closely with the new setting to ensure the transition can be as successful as possible.
Sometimes, transition may be quick and this cannot occur but school will ensure they contact the new setting and handover the required information.
If you would like to discuss your SEND requirements in detail please contact the school to arrange an appointment.
